Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)
ACE was always going to be my choice, it had the flexibility for me to study while I worked, using online learning.
The big unexpected was that I actually liked it! I genuinely don’t like studying, but doing my course through ACE with Karen as my trainer I gained a confidence I didn’t think I had when it comes to education. I actually finished not one, but two qualifications. Along the way I changed from thinking I would work in disability to aged care. On placement at Uniting Aged Care in Goonellabah I realised pretty quickly that I had a great relationship with the residents and wanted to make a difference in their lives. It is far more rewarding work than what I was previously doing. I went from my course, to employment and have also started as a buddy for other students from ACE. What a result! Honest, just do it. If you’re not doing anything, what do you have to lose by studying?
Things have changed over time, but I stayed my best self and didn’t give up. I really wanted a new career and enrolled in this course to gain the knowledge and experience; but also to be challenged by new ideas. I’m now employed in the sector and really enjoying it. I would say, take a risk, and see what can happen for you. Bravo Hamisi!
I have always been interested in Business and studied it in high school. I was offered a Certificate III Business traineeship with CONNECT and jumped at the chance. The opportunity to continue my studies through ACE after my initial Traineeship was the perfect outcome for me to continue furthering my career. I would say that having a wealth of knowledge can only help your future prospects and may help you decide exactly where you want to go in life. Currently I have been promoted to a higher-level position in my job and plan to stay for a long time, as I love what I do.
I have known of ACE for years, probably decades and always had an interest in the care industry. Future employment opportunities in this field seem solid. I found that the information in the course is essential to be an effective carer. The face to face teaching was great and I gained as much, if not more, from the practical information given by our teacher and class discussion.
Karen, our teacher, has worked in the industry for years and gave us a real understanding – invaluable to have theory filled out with practical advice.
I was a Beauty Therapist, but I wanted something more, a change in my career direction. I walked passed ACE regularly until one day I decided to walk in and ask about aged care courses, from there it was full steam ahead.
You get a real sense of achievement in completing the course. I am starting in a residential facility soon, which will help boost my confidence and experience.
I started in a bakery as a teenager and progressed from there to many jobs, yet not being totally satisfied. Didn’t think until doing the course that my calling was to love on the Elderly and honour them in this stage of life, where they need respect and a listening ear the most.
I actually was asked if I wanted employment during my work placement, while doing the course, which was a real blessing. I’m recovering from heart surgery and once I’m back on board I can give the same love and care that I experienced in ICU where I actually picked up a few extra skills. Observation is a great key.
I was walking by one day and came in to see what courses you were holding. I had relocated from Sydney after being a full time artist there. My course has helped me branch out to a different world then just designing for clients. I’m now teaching my new clients how to paint and sell their own works, and by doing my Certificate III in Disability I’m able to support in many more ways than just art. If you are thinking of studying – just do it – you can end up in the job of your dreams.
My background has always been people oriented starting with hairdressing and beauty therapy, a Diploma in Counselling and Life Coach. This is a new career direction and one in which I have found my niche. I have been working in an aged care facility for 15 months after successfully completing the Certificate III.
I am currently studying Certificate IV in Ageing Support with ACE. This certification will enable me to progress further in my field, become a team leader, and add fresh skills to my portfolio.
I remember overhearing someone talk about courses available at ACE in passing and it instantly caught my attention. I was at a complete loss of what to do career wise and restless with my day to day living, I was searching for something more, and I absolutely found that something more.
Do it, do it for yourself, you will not regret it. With my course now complete I’m applying for a job that I truly care about at the workplace of my dreams.
CERTIFICATE IV IN TRAINING & ASSESSMENT
AUSLAN
This all started with seeing a flyer in a shop window in Bangalow. I went along to a free workshop, talked with the team, then followed ACE Lismore on Facebook. Just when I became unemployed I saw a post for Certificate III in Aged Care.
This meant I would be going back to study after a break of 25 years, I questioned whether I could do it. I really shouldn’t have worried. Since my Certificate III I’ve added my qualification in training & assessment to the mix. This gave me a different perspective and advanced skills in understanding the many different ways in which people learn, live and communicate. I use these every-day in my support role.
The extra support I received from the ACE team, the course flexibility and their no quibble approach is exactly what I was looking for.
