Course
Description
‘Thinking Photography – Beyond the Frame’ is an advanced exploration into photography’s evolving role in modern culture, art, and society. Building upon the foundational knowledge from Thinking Photography course, this sequel is crafted to deepen students’ conceptual and critical thinking, emphasizing the power of photography as a medium of visual expression, social commentary, and personal narrative.
This course will encourage students to explore complex themes, expand their visual literacy, and consider photography’s role in shaping reality. By engaging with both historical and contemporary case studies, students will refine their abilities to analyze, interpret, and craft images with intention and depth.
While practical skills will be discussed, the emphasis will remain on critical thinking and conceptual insight. This course runs for three sessions, over three consecutive weeks at our Lismore campus.
TRAINER
Raimond de Weerdt holds both a Bachelor Visual Art (photography) from Sydney University and a Masters degree from the University of NSW in Digital Media. He has been actively working in this space for more than twenty five years and says ”In my mind there is nothing more exciting than creating photographs that ‘speak’. In my experience it is better to think about photography rather than get obsessed with all the buttons, once you think about photography the buttons are easy”.
Raimond is also a published author with his work titled ‘Creatives of the NSW Northern Rivers’ – a collection of 340 studio portraits of creative individuals that reside and work in the Northern Rivers.
