Description
This Auslan (Australian Sign Language) Beginners 1 course will offer you a fantastic, non-accredited introduction to the language used in the Deaf community as well as an insight into Deaf Culture.
Whether you aim to communicate more effectively with Deaf friends, family, or colleagues, or you are simply curious about Auslan and Deaf Culture, this course provides a welcoming and inclusive environment to learn and appreciate the richness of sign language and the vibrant Deaf community. Gain awareness of cultural norms, etiquette, and perspectives that influence daily interactions within the Deaf world.
This course runs for seven sessions, over seven consecutive weeks at our Murwillumbah campus. No previous experience or knowledge is necessary.
TRAINER
Marie Ware is a highly experienced Auslan teacher with over 25 years of experience. She takes pride in her work to make a positive difference in communication and does everything she can to help the community. She is proud to be part of it.
She holds a Diploma of Auslan Teaching and a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and enjoys teaching students at all levels. In addition to her teaching work, Marie is passionate about providing Deaf Awareness Training to various workplaces to help break down communication barriers for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals in the community. Marie has worked as an NDIS Support Coordinator, Support Worker, and Auslan Educational Assistant in primary and high schools.
