David found himself at a crossroads at the height of the Covid-19 Pandemic. Having spent over 20 years as a truck driver and many hours away from his family, 2021 was the year to change gears.
“I wasn’t getting anymore satisfaction in my job on the road away from my family, I felt I needed a change in career completely. My partner also had done training with ACE and suggested I do a Certificate III in Individual Support – Disability. Working with people who are looking for a mentor, giving support to vulnerable individuals with a disability sounded like a great idea”.
After just 13 weeks of study, David knew this was the industry he was meant to be in. He gained full time employment as a Disability Support Worker in the very same organisation that he was placed for 120 hours mandatory work placement (Gold Coast Recreation and Sport).
“I am loving this change. Best thing I ever did. The big bonus is I’m now home with my family more, as I get weekends off with my 2 daughters and partner, and enjoying my new role. Thank you to all the staff that made this possible for me to change my life and do something that makes me happy now.”
Here’s to you David. Changing direction is never out of reach.
