It’s been an eventful few months for ACE’s Outreach Support Officer Liliana. She has been out and about with disability services organisation REDInc, facilitating a brilliant Photovoice project.
Photovoice is widely used in community development around the world, and is an engaging methodology. By utilising photographs taken and selected by participants, respondents can reflect upon and explore the reasons, emotions and experiences that have guided their chosen images.
Working closely with support workers at REDInc, the goal was to empower clients with a disability to develop a sense of place and autonomy plus learn new skills. Liliana shares her insight from the experience.
“During June/July I delivered basic photography and storytelling skills, for clients to use to share how they want to be seen and their connection to Lismore. Participants were engaged, attentive and willing to step out of their comfort zone to give it a go – an awesome group.
In August we held a professional showcase of their stories told through images, and the results were amazing. It was lovely to see their final products. Madaline Denny (REDInc) did a great job in helping out and in displaying their work. Everyone looked so happy.”
What an incredible project to be a part of, and give back to our local Lismore community. Thank you Liliana!
